Taree is 81km southwest of Port Macquarie, 172km northeast of Newcastle, 317km northeast of Sydney and 606km south of Brisbane.

It is a town on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales with a population of 26,381 people. The town is set on the banks of the Manning River.

Taree has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and mild winters. Average temperatures in summer range from 17°C to 29°C and winter from 6°C to 21°C.
